IOSH Managing Safely Explained
The IOSH Managing Safely®️ course was developed by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). This globally chartered body provides internationally recognised courses that promote high health and safety standards in the workplace.
Unique to Astutis, each IOSH Managing Safely®️ course contains a free Human Factors bonus learning module. The Human Factors module explores organisational factors including safety culture, human failure, motivation and perception of risk.

IOSH Managing Safely®️ is assessed in 2 parts:

A Multiple-choice test of 30 questions. There are 60 points available and you need to score 60% to pass, so the pass mark is 36 out of 60.
-
A Practical assessment, in which participants must show how to apply the knowledge they have gained throughout the course to real-life situations. You must complete the risk assessment within 2 weeks of finishing the initial course.
An IOSH Managing Safely®️ certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of both parts of the assessment.

Course Length

The duration of the IOSH Managing Safely®️ course depends on the study method:

When studied through classroom, virtual classroom or in-house learning, the course is 3 days.

When studied through our online academy, we recommend spending between 20 and 25 hours on the course. Learners have access to the online course course for 6 months from date of enrolment.
Our classroom course timings are 09:00-17:00 Monday - Friday

While the course is aimed at those in managerial and supervisory positions, experience in these fields is not necessarily required to take the course.
This means applicants do not require any knowledge of health and safety prior to taking the course.

5. Definition of the term residual risk
6. Modules 2 and Module 3 include a practical activity to spot hazards, assess and control risk.

3. The three knowledge tests to help determine reasonably foreseeable risks: common, industry and expert knowledge
4. The difference between criminal law and civil law in relation to health and safety
5. The possible outcomes of not working inside the law
6. Where to find legal guidance
7. Key elements of a health and safety management system
8. Why leadership is an essential part of a health and safety management system
2. Common hazards in the workplace, their effects and symptoms and how to manage them

3. The benefits of incident investigation

You will also need to conduct and submit a skill-based workplace risk assessment within two weeks of completing your learning materials. A template is provided for you. You will need to score at least 23 out of 38 to pass.
