Multiple Choice Exam

You will be required to undertake a 45-minute multiple choice test, comprised of 30 questions. 

For classroom learning, this is taken in person at the end of the course, or for virtual or online learners, this is taken online.

A score of at least 36 out of 60 is required to pass.


Risk Assessment

You will also need to conduct and submit a skill-based workplace risk assessment within two weeks of completing your learning materials.

A template is provided for you, and this is submitted by email according to deadline.

You will need to score at least 23 out of 38 to pass.



You must pass both units to achieve your full IOSH Managing Safely.

Once your IOSH assessment is completed and your marks have been verified by IOSH, you will have immediate access to download your digital certificate through the IOSH portal

Multiple Choice Exam

You will complete a short multiple choice test, taken at the end of the course. 

You will have 30 minutes to answer 21 questions in a variety of formats, including multiple choice, true/false and open questions with short answers.


Once your IOSH assessment is completed and your marks have been verified by IOSH, you will have immediate access to download your digital certificate through the IOSH portal

Please note - your previous IOSH Managing Safely certificate number will be required to register for this course and exam.

2-Part Assessment

Learners will be required to undertake a 2-part assessment:

Part A is a multiple choice test - you will have 20 minutes to complete 21 questions. You will need at least 20 out of a possible 33 marks to pass.

Part B is a hazard spotting exercise comprised of 8 questions to complete in 10 mins. You will need at least 10 out of a possible 16 marks to pass.


Once your IOSH assessment is completed and your marks have been verified by IOSH, you will have immediate access to download your digital certificate through the IOSH portal

Multiple Choice Exam

At the end of the course, there is a short multiple choice test, comprised of 20 questions, you will have 30 minutes to complete.

If you are studying on-site through your company, this is taken at the end of your course, for virtual or online learners this is available to take anytime after completing your studies.


Risk Assessment

There is also a practical workplace health risk assessment, to be completed within 2 weeks of reaching the end of your learning materials, and submitted by email.


Once your IOSH assessment is completed and your marks have been verified by IOSH, you will have immediate access to download your digital certificate through the IOSH portal

At the end of this course you will write a personal commitment/action plan relating to the learning on the course; you must write up to three actions that you commit to taking in your workplace, appropriate to your level of responsibility.

This is marked by a tutor, and a second attempt is available if required.  Upon successful completion you will receive an IOSH approved certificate. This is sent digitally by Astutis so you will have an electronic copy.

The IOSH Approved Behavioural Science for Leadership in Safety is assessed with an online multiple-choice test. This is a 45 minute test, comprised of 14 questions. A score of at least 9 is required to pass the course.

At the end of the multiple-choice, you are asked to upload a KISS statement. A score of 6 out of 9 marks is required to pass.

You can also upload a Reflective Journal, this is optional. Please think about the principles you have learned from the program and choose what resonated with you.

Multiple Choice Exam

You will complete a multiple choice test consisting of 25 questions at the end of the course. The pass mark is 21 or above.

If you are studying on-site then this is taken in person, or if you are studying virtually, a copy of the test paper is sent to you by email.


Risk Assessment

This is a risk assessment assessing a hazard on your own site. The practical assessment must be completed within 2 weeks of your multiple choice, and is submitted by email. This assessment has a maximum of 38 marks.


Once your IOSH assessment is completed and your marks have been verified by IOSH, you will have immediate access to download your digital certificate through the IOSH portal

At the end of the course, you will have to complete a personal commitment (action plan), in which you will be expected to write up to three actions you commit to carrying out in your workplace.

Once your commitment is completed and verified by IOSH, you will have immediate access to download your digital certificate through the IOSH portal

If you have unfortunately been unsuccessful on any IOSH exam, don't worry! All IOSH exams/assessments come with a second attempt if needed, at no extra charge.
