What is NEBOSH training?

National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) is a leader in health, safety and environmental management qualifications. NEBOSH courses support the role of modern-day risk management and health and safety professionals and help organisations meet their legal obligations. Over 168,000 NEBOSH qualification exams are taken every year, in over 132 countries.

NEBOSH launched a new learning partner programme as a quality assurance scheme. It’s a way to help health and safety professionals recognise the learning providers that go above and beyond in their delivery of NEBOSH courses. Astutis were awarded Gold Learning Partner status.

What is a NEBOSH qualification?

NEBOSH is a professional qualification. They have been developed in line with industry standards set out by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in the UK.
The NEBOSH National Occupational Standards (NOS) for each level of qualification have been prepared by Occupational Skills Panel members from across industry, education, and training providers. They set out what is required from learners at each level of qualification, so that all learners can be sure they will receive a consistent level of training across all centres.
NEBOSH qualifications are internationally recognised and respected qualifications that have been developed to meet the needs of the workplace. They are designed to give you the knowledge and skills to work in a safe, healthy and environmentally friendly way.

Where is the NEBOSH qualification recognised?

The NEBOSH National General Certificate is widely recognised in the UK and internationally. It has been used as a benchmark of competence in the construction industry for over 30 years and is accepted by leading employers, professional institutions, regulatory bodies, international agencies and other accreditation bodies.

Anyone who wants to further their understanding of health and safety whilst improving their employability can study the NEBOSH National General Certificate! There are no restrictions. However, learners must be prepared to put in the study and revision time required to pass their NEBOSH Certificate assessments.

The NEBOSH National General Certificate and NEBOSH International General Certificate are both versions of the NEBOSH General Certificate. The National General Certificate course is available in the UK only and the International General Certificate is available to all countries outside of the UK.

Both NEBOSH Certificates are the same safety qualification level, have the same units, elements and learning outcomes and they both follow the same exam structure and grading system.

The NEBOSH course content isn’t that much different either. They both teach you how to manage health and safety issues based on the “Plan-Do-Check-Act” management system. But each NEBOSH Certificate reference different legislation and regulation in the finer details. Find out more about the difference in versions here.

The NEBOSH National General Certificate course is an ideal place to start as it gives a broad grounding in the field of health and safety. The NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma course will build on knowledge gained at this health and safety qualification level. Whilst it is not mandatory to have a pre-qualification to take the NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma, it is very highly recommended you have either the NEBOSH General Certificate or at least 5 years health and safety work experience.
The NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma is a Level 6 qualification which is equivalent to a UK degree with full honours. According to the National Qualifications Framework, completing the NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals equates to a full bachelor's degree.
The NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma course is available in two versions. National for UK based learners and International for learners outside the UK. Both NEBOSH courses are equal to one another however the syllabus is slightly different and is tailored to health and safety legislation in different parts of the world.

As a NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma course learner, you have access to your personal learning portal containing:

The NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety qualification meets the academic requirements to apply for Graduate Membership (Grad IOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). It is the first step to becoming a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner as a chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH).

The next step during the NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety course, is completing a Skills Development Portfolio. Once the Portfolio is completed, you will be asked to attend a peer review interview. Following the successful completion of all units of your NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma, you will also need to maintain your continuing professional development (CPD).

The NEBOSH General Certificate costs start from £450+VAT for an Online course. The Online course cost includes access to an award-winning online learning portal. Online learning is an interactive, digital approach to studying. Immerse yourself in activities, videos and podcasts as you work through a structured learning plan.
