Thames Water: Keeping safety above water

Background

Thames Water is the UK's most significant water and wastewater services company and supplies 2.6 billion litres (570 million imperial gallons) of drinking water per day and treats 4.7 billion litres (1,000 million imperial gallons) of wastewater per day. Thames Water's 15 million customers comprise 27% of the UK population.

Challenges

Since 2013, Astutis have supported Thames Water with IOSH, NEBOSH and ISEP, formerly knows as IEMA, accredited health, safety, and environment training. Our service tenure and relationship were solidified through a successful tender contract award for a further term.

One of the key strengths of our ongoing service solution lies in the array of delivery mediums utilised to support the disparate training requirements of Thames Water colleagues. This was one of the main motivations behind Thames Water choosing Astutis as their training provider of choice. As with their business, reputation was a critical factor in their choice. Thames Water, therefore, took the recommendations of our other partners and examined our years of work in the classroom. 

Pre-pandemic, IOSH and NEBOSH training was predominately supported in a traditional classroom training environment. Online (e-learning) was utilised as a supplementary delivery medium for additional courses, such as CDM 2015 in Practice training.  

With the advent of the pandemic, Thames Water and Astutis demonstrated their ability to flexibly adapt alternative delivery mediums to ensure a continuation of accredited IOSH and NEBOSH training, where our service solution pivoted away from the traditional classroom to our OnlinePlus+ service solution. 

OnlinePlus+ uses our best-in-class e-learning IOSH Managing Safely and NEBOSH General Certificate courses as a bedrock and bolsters the e-learning training material through a series of live-hosted tutor-led webinars delivered at relevant milestones of the respective courses across a set learning schedule.  

Results 

Astutis has provided extensive OnlinePlus+ training support to Thames Water across the last couple of years, successfully delivering numerous courses to good effect whilst maintaining consistently high course pass rates. We have adapted our training around the business to include other innovative solutions to enhance the health and safety standards of Thames Water.
