Accident and Incident Investigation

The investigation and analysis of work-related accidents and incidents is an essential part of successful management. This interactive workplace training course covers the process of investigating accidents under the Health and Safety guidance (HSE) publications HSE 245.

It also covers the requirements for reporting accidents under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) 2013.

This course is suitable for anyone who is responsible for dealing with and investigating accidents should they occur, including: first responders, supervisors, managers and safety representatives. It establishes the importance and key concepts of safe systems of work, the use of permits and dynamic risk assessments. 

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Use a casual tree methodology to identify direct, underlying and root causes of an adverse event.
  • Understand the concept of human failures in adverse events.
  • Identify effective measures to prevent a recurrence and prepare an action plan.
