Successful delegates receive a St John Ambulance certificate as evidence of completed first aid recertification, valid for three years, recognising their updated skills as a qualified First Aider at Work.

The First Aid at Work requalification course is a two-day training programme designed for experienced first aiders looking to renew their first aid certificate and maintain their qualified status. The FAW requalification course is available through classroom and on-site learning options at locations across the UK, delivered in partnership with St John Ambulance.
A First Aid at Work certificate is valid for three years. To requalify in first aid at work, certificate holders must complete a FAW renewal course before their current certification expires.
The HSE recommends completing your first aid renewal course while your certificate is still valid — if more than one month has elapsed since expiry, retaking the full three-day First Aid at Work course is advised. Employers should track expiry dates across their organisation to ensure continuous compliance.

If your certificate has lapsed, you may still attend a first aid at work requalification course. Still, the HSE advises anyone whose certificate has expired by more than one month to retake the full three-day qualification instead. To avoid any gap in compliance, we recommend booking your FAW requalification course ahead of your expiry date.
The First Aid Requalification course is assessed via continuous practical observations and written learning checks. Learners are evaluated against the same standards as the full First Aid at Work course. The observations and learning checks ensure that learners' skills and understanding meet the FAW requirements.
Upon successful completion of the course, learners will receive a St John Ambulance certificate, which is valid for three years.
