How to take the NEBOSH Diploma
There are a number of ways to take the NEBOSH Diploma. The method you choose will depend on your circumstances and how you prefer to learn.
Online elearning
Online training is a brilliant way to take the qualification if you are looking for flexibility and to fit learning around your existing responsibilities.
It does require a degree of self-motivation and discipline but means you can take the course in your own time, at your own pace using online learning resources. You'll also have access to a remote tutor to support you through your training.
The online qualification can be complete in 450 - 500 hours and all you need is access to a reliable internet connection and a laptop or smart-phone!
Classroom learning

Distance learning

What are the entry requirements for the NEBOSH Diploma?
There aren't any strict requirements for starting a NEBOSH Diploma. However, is it recommended that you have a good standard of the English language and a foundation level health and safety qualification such as the NEBOSH General Certificate.
What's the difference between the NEBOSH Diploma and the NEBOSH General Certificate?
The NEBOSH General Certificate is a great place to start with your health and safety learning. It covers a broad range of topics and is the ideal course for those looking to start their health and safety career.
The NEBOSH Diploma on the other hand, is a more advanced course aimed at those who are already working in a health and safety role. Ideally, you would take the NEBOSH Certificate and then the NEBOSH Diploma.

NEBOSH Diploma Syllabus
The NEBOSH Diploma builds on the content covered in the NEBOSH General Certificate. It's split into 4 units:
- Unit A: Managing health and safety
- Unit B: Hazardous agents in the workplace
- Unit C: Workplace and work equipment safety
- Unit DNI: Application of health and safety theory and practice

How long does it take to complete the NEBOSH Diploma?
The NEBOSH Diploma requires a lot of hard work and study however, the amount of time it takes to complete depends on the type of training you choose. NEBOSH recommends around 500 study hours in total.
Taught Learning Hours: The taught course has a minimum of 243 taught hours which can be done online. There will be additional study hours to complete course work at home. Online learning is much more flexible meaning you can do those hours in your own time and at your own pace.
Self-Study Hours: If you decide to choose the self-study route it is recommended that you spend 256 hours studying.

How hard is the NEBOSH Diploma?
The NEBOSH Diploma is an advanced qualification, so it’s certainly not a walk in the park.
Your current level of knowledge and ability to motivate yourself will naturally play a big part on how difficult you find the course. But so will other factors like time, language and your confidence in sitting exams. If you'd like to know more about this take a look here.

There are three half day exams for Units A to C. Unit DNI is assessed with an 8,000 word work-based assignment.

What to expect from your NEBOSH Diploma exams
You need to pass four assessments to achieve your full NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety - three 3-hour written exams and one 8,000 word assignment. Don't worry, you'll get lots of exam preparation and support throughout your course.

How much does the NEBOSH Diploma cost?
Lots of factors go into the price of a NEBOSH Diploma course. Your chosen learning method and location are the main two considerations. But other support services like webinars, tutor support and exam help can also affect the price.
A very basic self-study course with no additional services can start from around £1,200.
If you are funding the course yourself, you may be able to get a payment plan with your course provider to spread the cost along with the three units.
