Astutis Develops IOSH Managing Safely course for the Aviation Sector
Background
The Aviation Sector supports nearly 1,000,000 jobs in the UK. A third of these jobs are direct Aviation related jobs with another third being the supply chain and associated businesses.
It is therefore apparent that there is an enormous demand for relevant training in this highly regulated sector with a real need for Managers and Supervisors to understand their responsibilities and accountabilities for the health and safety of colleagues and contractors. The importance of strategic and robust health and safety management cannot be understated given the variety of risks present throughout the industry.
Astutis has worked closely with the IOSH Aviation and Aerospace Group (AAG) in developing a health and safety course that closely relates to the day to day risks faced by staff working within this sector. Chairman of the AAG Keith Merrie is delighted that an Aviation sector specific course is soon to become available to the industry. Keith said that "having now developed an Airside Safety DVD which has been an incredible success, it is now important to build on this by offering an accredited course specifically designed to educate those in charge of people across the sector."
Course Development
The IOSH Managing Safely in Aviation course is now in the final stages of development and will be submitted to IOSH for final accreditation within the next few weeks. With the support of Educationalists, Chartered Safety Professionals and indeed Aviation Safety Specialists, Astutis has been able to develop a course that is quite unique to the sector. By covering areas such as ramp safety, aircraft turnaround and airside safety management this course is fully tailored to the sector.
Brenig Moore, Astutis Operations Director commented; "we even cover areas such as airport check-in when discussing DSE assessment and loading the hold when we discuss manual handling, such is the level of detail included within this course. Many examples and photographs are Aviation specific within the presentation and workbooks."
The IOSH Managing Safely in Aviation course will be available from December 2011 and will be delivered in-company as well as from the Astutis open-course centres in Cardiff and Heathrow throughout 2012.
