Success at Intersec Mirrors the Positive Safety, Security and Fire Protection Markets

January 2014

January 2014 saw another successful Intersec the Middle East’s leading networking event for health and safety professionals.

Now in its 16th year, this international safety, security and fire protection trade fair, was the largest ever with 1,213 exhibitors from 54 countries. The popular three day event welcomed guests from all over the world with the top visiting countries being Saudi Arabia, Iran, Oman, Qatar and India. The Safety and Health section of Intersec saw a 25% increase in exhibitors with successful conferences including the launch of Techtextil Middle East Symposium and Safety Design in Buildings Conference run by Dubai Civil Defence.

Safety professionals visiting the Astutis stand this year commented on the growing demand by employers for the NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety as a minimum requirement. Recognising how it facilitates companies to remain compliant and enhance their reputation, essential for good business and registrations for this, NEBOSH’s most popular course, are on the rise.Intersec 2014 Visitor LargeThe Middle East has the largest number of NEBOSH registrations in the world and the number is increasing, evidence of the region’s commitment to enhancing health and safety standards boosted by the high profile events planned.

Managing Director of Astutis, Steve Terry, remarked, “Since Intersec 2013 we have noticed a genuine increase in people asking about the NEBOSH International Certificate but also a lot more enquiries about the NEBOSH International Diploma. There is a clear desire for people to develop professionally to a higher level in international health and safety qualifications. The benefit of succeeding in the NEBOSH Diploma for individuals’ careers and for companies’ improved performance is essential for the exciting developments and events planned across the region.

There was much interest in Astutis’ launch of the new NEBOSH International Diploma distance learning at Intersec, as a cost effective and very convenient learning solution for individuals who have limited time to devote to a formal study programme. The NEBOSH International Diploma e-learning is due to be launched in April 2014. Steve Terry added, “Offering busy professionals a choice of how to study for qualifications that can transform their careers is our priority. Our learners can choose classroom or e-learning or distance learning supported by webinars, and of course our expert tutors. We work to develop the best solution for our clients and it is proving very popular. Watch our webspace.

The enduring growth and success of Intersec reflects the dynamic markets for the safety, security and fire protection industries in light of the prospering economies and high profile world events. Dubai voted as the host for the high profile global Expo World Fair in 2020 means the UAE and the whole Middle Eastern region will benefit from economic growth in the construction, trade, tourism, retail, logistics sectors. As a result, visitors at Intersec were positively charged in the current favourable climate when reviewing the exhibitors’ products and services to meet the exciting challenges and benefits ahead for organisations in the region.

Intersec benefited from business activity by authorities within the region plus governmental support from the UK among other European countries. Dr Vince Cable, UK Business Secretary to the United Arab Emirates attended Intersec to speak to His Highness Sheikh Ahmed, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, about high value opportunities for UK business in the aerospace sector.
