Health and Safety Training Grants for IOSH Courses | A Guide for Businesses

May 2025

Cost is a big factor that many businesses consider when needing to upskill their workforce and provide health and safety training. One of the key points that business owners look at when making this decision is how they are going to fund training. There are a couple of grants available which employers utilise to pay for employee health and safety training.

Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Employer Networks

Employer Networks are funded by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). Their objective is to simplify the funding you need to access for the training you need for your organisation, provided you are within the construction industry.

The training can be in anything that supports construction employers. If businesses are registered with CITB, up to date with their levy and have an Employer Network in their area they are eligible for this funding.

There is a full list of available areas, which you can view on the CITB website.

Flexible Skills Programme (FSP)

The Flexible Skills Programme (FSP), funded by the Welsh Government, offers financial support to Welsh-based employers looking to upskill their workforce in key areas.

The FSP offers up to 50% funding (capped at £25,000) towards training costs for businesses in Wales, covering a wide range of training areas, including health and safety. Many businesses use this to fund mass training courses for multiple staff members, such as the IOSH Managing Safely or IOSH Working Safely.

In order to be eligible, business must be based in Wales and be able to complete the training by March 2026.

Have You Considered the Learning Method?

With the majority of IOSH courses offered by Astutis, you are able to choose how employees will learn with both online and classroom learning options available. If you are conscious of budget then choosing the learning method is worth lending some thought to.

Our annual learner report survey asked 900 HSE professionals about their budgets for the upcoming financial year amongst other topics such as AI adoption and employee attitudes towards health and safety. Online courses tend to be substantially cheaper to sit than a traditional classroom course, because overheads such as venue hire don’t apply. Therefore if you are working to a budget for your professional learning, many people find that online learning is their preferred method.
