How times change
Celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee gave all of us the chance to stop and reflect on how things have changed over the last 60 years. Advances in technology have to be one of the biggest changes in our lives. 60 years ago only 1 in 10 households had a telephone ... today there are over 5.6 billion mobile phone users worldwide. 60 years ago who had thought of having computers in the home or the need for something like the internet? Today, according to the Office of National Statistics, over 19 million (77%) households are connected to the internet ... and how many workplaces could manage without it?
In terms of health and safety, the workplace has also seen many changes for the better over the last 60 years. The Health and Safety at Work Act, introduced in 1974, has been one of the driving forces which has helped to improve the health, safety and welfare of those in the workplace, as the statistics from the HSE continue to show.
Astutis wasn't around 60 years ago but they are among the many organisations who are striving to ensure that the workplace of the future continues to be a safe and healthy place by providing quality health, safety and environmental training, both in the classroom and, to meet the challenges of a today's changing world, online.
