NEBOSH Best Student 2019. Meet Hannah
Course
Meet Hannah. She’s a Senior Project Surveyor for the Local Authority and works in the Building Services team. And she just won the award for NEBOSH Best Student for Unit B in 2019.
Hannah is responsible for planning, supervising and managing construction works on non-domestic buildings, like schools. She works on all types of projects; from minor repairs to larger refurbishment schemes. She oversees the whole process from start to finish.
Hannah already has a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science and a HNC in Building Studies, so she’s no stranger to the demands of academic study. The NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma goes hand in hand with her role in the construction industry and she could see the benefits of adding it to her repertoire.
Hannah chose to take the NEBOSH Diploma course online. This meant she could study while she was working, which turned out to be a big advantage.
“The NEBOSH Diploma requires a lot of dedication. This is even more true for the online learners like me. Working in the construction industry certainly helped me with my journey because I was able to relate study material to real situations in work.”
It’s no secret that taking the NEBOSH Diploma needs time and commitment. It can be difficult to find the motivation to study after working all day. Hannah found it useful to plan a loose revision timetable with set targets. My revision timetable even had days off for no study which were very welcome.
“I found it useful to break each unit into smaller sections and set days or weeks to achieve them. I’d then use the test questions in the course materials along with past exam papers to test myself.”
“The course material offered by Astutis is easy to access and very user-friendly. The course notes are broken down into individual sections which makes the learning experience less daunting. The revision webinars offered by Astutis are a great revision tool and definitely something that I would recommend.”
The biggest advice I can offer to other learners is to practice the exam questions against the clock. Its completely different having an answer in your head but being able to clearly put this down on paper to a deadline requires practice.
Whilst I still have Unit D to complete, I have been able to use the knowledge gained from the course material to tackle certain aspects of my work in a different manner.
I plan to stay in my current role for the next couple of years but see the NEBOSH Diploma as another string to my bow. The qualification would hopefully set me apart from other candidates when I decide to apply for a new job.
Even though her employer didn’t offer any financial support, Hannah could see the benefits of taking the course and decided to take the plunge.
“Astutis enabled me to pay per unit which was a big help in making the course accessible and essentially made the course viable.”
