HAZOP Leadership and Management

The 3-day training course, delivered by IChemE, provides you with in-depth guidance on how to lead HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies effectively. It goes beyond the basics of HAZOP participation and focuses specifically on the leadership, facilitation, and management skills needed to chair these studies successfully.

By the end of this course, you will understand:
- The principles of key hazard identification techniques such as inherent safety study, HAZID, HAZOP and FMECA.
- How to select appropriate techniques for different situations, scenarios and stages in the project lifecycle.
- The advantages and limitations of each technique.
- When and how to use risk assessment as part of hazard identification including LOPA.

Module 1-8
The HAZOP programme covers planning, node selection, preparation, facilitation, team dynamics, effective recording, leadership, and final report development with action management.
Assessments

All learners will be invited to complete an assessment at the end of the course. Delegates scoring 70% and above will be issued with an IChemE HAZOP Leadership and Management pass certificate. Please note, this certification does not serve as a formal IChemE HAZOP leader accreditation or endorsement.
Course Length

Virtual Classroom courses consist of four live and interactive modules with the trainer, each lasting three hours. There will also be some work to complete independently before the course and between the live sessions. More details will be provided after you have registered.
Virtual sessions are delivered via Microsoft Teams. If you don't already have this installed, you can join as a guest in order to access the training. Face to Face-to-face classroom Courses are delivered over 3 days.
This is an advanced-level course. To get the most value, delegates should have:
- Prior experience participating in HAZOP studies.
- A sound understanding of the HAZOP methodology.
- A technical background in process engineering, operations, or safety (preferred).
- Planning a HAZOP programme
- Node identification and time estimation
- Preparation of the event
- Recording style, skills and development of recommendations
