Olympic Legacy
After many years of preparation and planning, the spectacular event that was the London 2012 Olympics has drawn to a close and everyone is keen that the legacy of the Olympics lives on. The London 2012 Olympic bid declared the long term aim of using the power of sport to act as a catalyst for positive change and inspiration. The areas of youth, sport, people, transformation and London and the UK are the main areas that the London 2012 Olympic legacy covers.
Construction Legacy
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) was instrumental in ensuring the physical transformation of a large area of the east of London, to create the Olympic Park, on time and, most importantly, safely. The health and safety of the 40,000 strong workforce was the number one priority in this huge construction project. As well as focusing on preventing harm, award winning occupational health facilities were also available to all workers. With the accident frequency rate for the Olympic Park well below the industry average, there are many lessons that can be learnt … which is why the ODA have set up the Learning Legacy Project.
Learning Legacy Project
The Learning Legacy Project has 10 themes, one of which is health and safety. The idea is that the lessons learnt and the successes achieved during the construction of the Olympic Park can be shared and used to improve construction projects, including health and safety, in the future. The health and safety area of the Learning Legacies website contains summaries, reports and case studies on a wide range of topics, from food safety and occupational health provision to the importance of leadership and worker involvement and training.
