New, Refreshing and Informative - Our Diploma Webinars Meet With Approval

July 2013

June saw the launch of Astutis’ piloted series of webinars in the run up to the NEBOSH Diploma exams - covering key Unit A topics - which have been met with some great feedback.

The new webinar provision from the online learning team (run in tandem with our NEBOSH qualified tutors) has been designed to support distance and online learners as they revise for their National Diploma examinations. Taking the form of hour long revision sessions, it is intended that key topics for each NEBOSH Diploma Unit will be covered - meaning 10 topics will be featured in all.

June’s webinars were launched to cover the 3 Unit A topics of:

  • Health, Safety and the Law;
  • Human Factors; and
  • Fault Trees/Event Trees

and offered attendees the benefit of tutors’ first hand experiences of National Diploma exams.

The interactive sessions meant our remote delegates were able to meet tutors and fellow students online to interact, listen, watch, ask questions, and share experiences - much as they would in a standard classroom environment. The sessions were also recorded for attendees to watch back and use as an additional revision aid at their leisure.

The feedback from attendees has been fantastic:

"I found both the sessions [Law & Fault/Event Trees] I was able to attend very helpful. I was impressed with Adobe Connect [accessed on a Galaxy Note via the Android App] and plan to start using it for my work. If any more sessions were run I would definitely attend." and

"I have found the [recordings of the] sessions very useful. (I could not attend the live sessions because of work commitments so requested recordings beforehand.)"

The initial project was run in collaboration with the University of South Wales Commercial Services department through ‘The Strategic Insight Programme’ to provide insight into a ‘proposed commercial model of online learning’. Partnering with the University, who are developing a similar service for their learners, has meant a valuable exchange of knowledge which will be used in the development of a model for future use.

The sessions were hosted via Adobe Connect an easy to use web conferencing platform which is accessed on a computer or mobile device via the Adobe Connect App. The software allows delegates to attend from anywhere in the world via virtually any device (without requiring a client download) and has met with the approval of our online learning development team:

We were extremely happy with the software as a solution to our webinar needs. Everything went smoothly and our distance and online learners were given an excellent opportunity to receive tutor instruction and interaction with fellow students through the tutorial support.

Future webinars will cover three Unit B sessions, three Unit C sessions and a Unit D (practical) briefing.

If you would like to sign up to participate in the next round of Diploma webinars which will be covering topics in Unit B in the run up to the December exams, please get in touch.
