Where Is IEMA Recognised?

November 2024

The Institute of Environmental Management (IEMA) has been known across the globe for its outstanding courses centring on sustainability and environmental management for nearly a quarter of a century. Both national and international organisations are seeing huge developments in their goals around carbon reduction as well as waste and resource management thanks to the thorough curriculums.

When investing in environmental training, organisations want to utilise courses that are applicable and recognised worldwide. IEMA courses are the perfect fit for those looking to have qualifications that are recognised as widely as possible.

Where Are IEMA Courses Recognised?

Quite simply, the courses IEMA provides are internationally recognised, particularly in sectors and industries where environmental management and sustainability are priorities, like construction, energy and manufacturing. In fact, in these industries, IEMA qualifications are often highly valued or even required for certain roles.

IEMA courses also cover subjects that have international implications. The IEMA Pathways to Net Zero is one such course. With each country setting its own plans and initiatives for their net zero strategy, it is important to have an understanding of each country that your business has a foothold in. With environmental regulations lacking continuity from country to country, it is vital that you understand these areas fully if you are to achieve your environmental goals.

Why Are Internationally Recognised Courses Important?

Investing in courses that are recognised worldwide is very advantageous to organisations that have an international presence or have ambitions to expand into other countries.

From an organisational perspective, this allows your employees training to be consistent no matter where they’re based and prevents the need for further training on regulations if employees move to other locations or countries. In addition to this, international organisations can rest knowing that there is consistency across their training program, as there will be no need to purchase courses from different providers in different locations.

What Is the Difference Between IEMA and NEBOSH?

Another internationally recognised organisation that provides environmental courses is the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH). This can cause some confusion between the two organisations, and which is better, but there are some key differences between them you should be aware of.

IEMA courses are ideal for those who are passionate about environmental and sustainability issues and want to develop a long-term career within environmental roles.

NEBOSH is the leading examining body for the UK health and safety industry and has a presence worldwide with international renditions of their courses. Their environmental courses are best for those who want to understand and implement environmental management into a set of general occupational health and safety skills.

We have previously looked into what makes the two organisations different.

Are IEMA Courses Worth It?

IEMA courses being internationally recognised is just one aspect of their appeal. Organisations can except to see better cost savings and a reduction in their carbon emissions and waste.

Resources will also be more effectively used and public sentiment towards your organisation will improve. More and more consumers are picking environmentally conscious businesses that can demonstrate an appropriate level of sustainable practice. Organisations must adapt to changing opinions or risk falling behind more contemporary competitors.

Our IEMA courses have a variety of benefits that employers will notice almost immediately.

  • "I thought the course was great really enlightening. The tutor was super engaging which was great as i was worried about the virtual experience. however, i did find the whole exam online a stressful experience - the instructions given did not match the reality of the software - the instructions indicated that the 360 degree room shot should be taken before you start the assessment - in reality you have to click start assessment first! - very panicked and was not a nice experience. I sort live help with one person not knowing and passing me to another who was more familiar."
