Astutis IOSH Managing Safely in Aviation Course Runs in Middle East

May 2013

Astutis has recently successfully delivered its first overseas IOSH Managing Safely in Aviation course, to satisfied clients in the Middle East.

The vision of Ras Al Khaimah International Airport is to be a successful world class airport that serves its customers to the best of its abilities, thereby contributing to the long term growth and prosperity of the airport, the Emirate and its people.

The course was delivered by Astutis's Aviation specialist, Rod Blest, who recently joined the team. With over 10 years’ experience in the aviation industry, Rod was key to the development of the IOSH Managing Safely in Aviation course which is designed to enable delegates to turn relevant knowledge to practical use within their own aviation related environments.

Rod said:

"The delegates from Ras Al Khaimah Airport are already looking at implementing some of the strategies the course covers. To run the course outside of the UK was a privilege and I was made to feel very welcome by the management and staff of Ras Al Khaimah."

During the course delegates learnt about a range of common hazards both land-side and air-side, including those that arise during ‘aircraft turnaround’ operations.

On completion of the training, Terry Sloan said:

"The course was a real success...it will change the mindset and raise the standard of Ras Al Khaimah operational staff forever."

Some of the feedback received from delegates also included 'what an eye opener' and 'I will never carry out an inspection in the same way again'.

Terry added:

"As a head of department leading the team, you can imagine my delight at such feedback. It clearly is what was needed and I very much hope that it will enable them to reach suitable solutions when faced with safety related situations. To sum up, it was a very beneficial and worthwhile exercise that will improve many as individuals and employees, I now have an operational army empowered with mitigation techniques and  would not hesitate to recommend Astutis to any organisation dedicated to raising safety standards and awareness in the workplace."

  • "The course was helpful in guiding the most important points to assimilate. The book is well written and structured. The tutor used a slightly different structure which avoided the onkine course being labourious and instead made it more valuable with a different angle on things.
