Astutis Runs First Residential Course in English Countryside

November 2013

The first fully residential course run by leading Health and Safety training and Consultancy firm Astutis came to a close last week in Hereford, UK.

The NEBOSH International General Certificate course run at Pengethley Manor attracted delegates from as far afield as Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Nigeria and The Phillipines (across both private and public sectors) who were seeking to further their career and better their organisations’ safety standards.

The course took the format of two consecutive weeks of study with the final exams taking place on the last Saturday.
Unit 1, The Management of Health and Safety which comprises a Foundation in Health and Safety and takes an in-depth look at Health and Safety Management Systems was covered in week 1 by Consultant Mike Dunn, while Unit 2, which deals with Controlling Workplace Risks was covered in week 2 by Astutis’ Tom Lea.

Cemex, a leading international organisation in the building materials industry put Health and Safety Mangers from Switzerland and the Philippines on this course. Edmundo Trazo, EHS Manager from Cemex Asia commented:

The 2-week course was indeed an intensive one - but I have enjoyed it.  Your facilitators (Mike and Tom) were great!

The benefits of running a residential course mean that delegates can really immerse themselves in their learning away from any outside distractions. Undoubtedly, there is a lot of material to take on board as part of the NEBOSH International Certificate course, but learning in this manner means that there was always a tutor on hand to offer advice and further insight.

Tom said:
Having such a multi-cultural representation at this course gave the training a different dynamic. It was great to hear about delegates’ different ways of operating and diverse experiences I felt it really added a new perspective to the learning of the NEBOSH IGC. I am sure that everyone took away something original from their peers in different countries.
