Doing our bit to tackle air pollution on Clean Air Day, 20 June 2019

June 2019

On 20 June, Global Action Plan’s Clean Air Day will see workplaces, communities, colleges and schools across the globe run events to inspire people to take simple steps to protect their health and the health of others.

Astutis, an international leader in workplace health, safety and environmental training is pledging their support of Clean Air Day by encouraging their staff to:

  • reduce emissions associated with driving to work, by car sharing,
  • reduce the amount of time engines are idle in traffic
  • arrange video or teleconferences rather than travelling to meetings
  • turn off all electrical equipment at the end of the working day
  • take a copy of the awareness leaflets back home to share with their families.

Astutis MD, Steve Terry, said:  “Through the continued hard work of organisations like Global Action Plan there is now a much greater awareness of the risk that poor air quality poses to our heath. We’re delighted to be supporting this year’s campaign to help further raise awareness.

“Health and wellbeing is part of our DNA at Astutis, and we believe that building awareness with our staff has a role to play in cleaning up our air quality- every little action contributes to a greener, healthier and brighter future for us all”.

What is Air Pollution

Air pollution affects your health from your first breath to your last, as the damage to our health can start when we’re a baby and carry on through in to old age.

Air pollution is an umbrella term for lots of different types of pollution in the air around us. All these pollutants can be inhaled and absorbed into your body. Different types of pollution are caused by different things and can affect your body in different ways.

The good news is that the air pollution crisis is solvable and there are many simple steps we can all take to help our work colleagues and family avoid toxic air and cut down on the pollution we emit – it’s good for us and good for the planet.

If you need to broaden your knowledge so you can carry out your environmental responsibilities at work, Astutis offer widely accredited IEMA and NEBOSH qualifications

All the information on how to get involved in Clean Air Day is available from the Clean Air Day website www.cleanairday.org.uk.
