Team Astutis Smashes Target in Cardiff 10K

September 2014

The Astutis team's training over the past few months certainly paid off on Sunday 7 September when they took to the roads in Cardiff around Roath Park Lake and finishing at the National Museum in beautiful weather conditions. The 23 runners and walkers were proud to be supporting Kidney Wales raising positive awareness and funds of £2,867 (with more to come), smashing the target by almost £1000.

Team Astutis proudly defended its position of 17th in the corporate teams out of 138. The top 6 runners finished under 50 minutes including MD Steve Terry. Many of the team achieved personal bests on last year's results - truly an experienced running team in the making.

Frankie Jones, Wales gold medal in rhythmic gymnastics in the 2014 Commonwealth Games took part in the celebrations having also completed the 10k! (standing to the left of Steve Terry number 398 in the image on the left).

For members of the team who preferred a more leisurely pace the "Astutis walkers" cooly strolled past the finishing line with a police escort and a round of applause for good measure. John Ellis, Astutis Course Advisor for learners in WalesCardiff10klast3 who has been walking regularly around Roath Park Lake in preparation commented, "This is the first time I have taken part in a 10K and I am delighted to complete it in my home town having helped raised funds for Kidney Wales."Cardiff 10k 2014 finish lineA real carnival atmosphere was enjoyed by all enthusiastic spectators cheering on almost 4,000 runners some in fancy dress. Helen Hodges, Learning Designer at Astutis and 10k Team Captain remarked, "The support from the people on the side of the road was amazing this year … cheers, words of encouragement, orange slices and jelly babies certainly helped everyone round."

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Cardiff 10K. Hope to see you there next year.

  • "The course was helpful in guiding the most important points to assimilate. The book is well written and structured. The tutor used a slightly different structure which avoided the onkine course being labourious and instead made it more valuable with a different angle on things. The tutor was knowledgeable & friendky and approchable. Made me feel relaxed & trusting in him and my own abilities too."
