Why is dealing with manual handling important?

Manual handling tasks such as lifting, pushing and carrying heavy or bulky items have the potential to cause musculoskeletal (MSD) injuries to workers in the workplace.

They can occur almost anywhere in the workplace and heavy manual labour, awkward postures, repetitive movements of arms, legs and back or previous/existing injury can increase the risk.

To help prevent manual handling injuries in the workplace, employers must look at the risks of that task and put sensible health and safety measures in place such as manual handling training to prevent and avoid injury.

Our Manual Handling Online Course will help learners identify and correct unsafe manual handling conditions, preventing workplace injury.

For workforce training, whatever your industry, we offer physical on-site Classroom, Virtual and Online training to help your staff and teams stay protected.

Generally, Astutis s recommended that manual handling training be refreshed every year to ensure that employees remain aware of safe handling techniques and any changes in regulations or workplace practices. Regular refresher courses help reinforce safe practices and reduce the risk of injury. Employers should keep records of training dates and schedule periodic refreshers accordingly to maintain compliance and workplace safety.
Yes, manual handling training is generally compulsory in many industries to comply with occupational health and safety regulations. Employers are required to provide appropriate training to employees who are involved in manual handling tasks to ensure they understand the risks and know how to perform these tasks safely. The requirements for manual handling training can vary by country and region, but the underlying principle is to prevent workplace injuries and ensure the safety and well-being of employees.
