Made Redundant in Wales? Retrain for Free!

October 2011

As unemployment levels in Wales reach record highs, it’s now more important than ever to stand out from the crowd when applying for new roles or considering a career change. One key way of doing this is by securing further qualifications and with ReAct II funding eligible for those who are unemployed or facing redundancy, this is now easier than ever to achieve.

With recent cuts in public spending, the UK now has the highest unemployment level in 17 years. Over 131,000 people in Wales are out of work, a level which has risen by 9% over the past 3 months.

ReAct Training Grants

ReAct II (Redundancy Action Scheme II) funding is provided by the Welsh Assembly Government and WEFO to people living in Wales. If you are facing redundancy or have already been made redundant in the last 6 months you could qualify for discretionary award of up to £1,500 towards training which will increase your chances of employment. What’s more, because the award is a grant and not a loan, it doesn’t need repaying!

Support is also available for travel costs and where necessary overnight accommodation and childcare.

Funding for employers

Further funding is available for those employers who hire someone who has been made redundant. Employers can receive up to £3000 towards wages and a separate fund of £1000 towards job-related training.

Eligible Astutis Courses

The ReAct grant of £1500 can be put towards any of health, safety and environmental courses Astutis offer which is not only useful for industry specialists but also relevant for anyone applying for a Manager or Director level position.

Astutis are also offering the NEBOSH General Certificate an NEBOSH Construction Certificate at a discounted price of £1500 for delegates receiving the ReAct grant so you don’t have to pay a penny.

Contact one of our Training Advisors for further details or visit the Wales government website for further information on the React scheme

  • "Content needs work but tutor was brilliant and study webinars very valuable"

    Sarah
    11.03.2024
  • "Generally the course covers basic health and safety across many industries at a level which is both useful but not TOO in depth. I work in bio-sciences but understood the sections referring to construction well and found much of the course to be quite transferable. Speed of learning is good. Certain parts of the course (asbestos springs to mind) made questionable claims however the course allows this sort of thing to be flagged as feedback."
