IOSH Managing Safely Module 4 is tailored to the engineering and construction sector. It provides a risk management health and safety certificate, offering supervisors an understanding of the legal requirements and practical actions needed for the health and safety of their teams. This course is part of the Supervisor Competence Framework for the engineering construction industry and comprises the safety knowledge and skills element of the 'Supervisor' level. 

Completion of this safety module 4 of the 5 modules provides Supervisors with the necessary safety certificate for the Supervisor Training Programme.

Who is IOSH Managing Safely ECITB module 4 for? 

For any person with supervisory or management responsibility for health, safety & the environment, especially those with little previous training. It is also for Supervisors and Managers in the engineering and construction sectors who want to develop their role as part of the 'Supervisor Competence Framework' these roles typically include Supervisor 2, Lead Chargehand, Supervisor Foreman, 2nd Line Supervisor and Lead Engineers in organisations.

What is covered in IOSH Managing Safely ECITB module 4? 

The IOSH Managing Safely ECITB Module 4 course content covers:

  • Understand the importance of managing health and safety at work 
  • Understand the contributory factors which can cause accidents 
  • Increase awareness of personal safe behaviours and the need to promote safe behaviours within the work team 
  • Recognise the vital role that a supervisor plays in the overall health & safety management process. 

Course assessment and IOSH certificate

There is a 45 minute multiple choice test at the end of the course, together with a workplace health and safety risk assessment assignment which must be completed within 2 weeks of doing the test, in order to pass. On successful completion of the assessment you will get an IOSH Certificate.

What next?

The next step in the Supervisor Development Programme is the Senior Supervisor Training which lasts around 18 months leading to the Chartered Management Institute Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management. Information about this training is availbale from the ECITB.
