Professional Background

Gary is a Chartered Occupational Health and Safety Advisor, Practitioner and Trainer with experience in delivering training within the UK, Middle East and Africa. He is proficient in the management and presentation of high level courses in the demanding Oil and Gas industry. 

Gary spent 23 years working within the heavy industry as a Welding and Fabricator Engineer, within industries from Shipbuilding to General Steel construction for Onshore and Offshore Industries, before turning his hand to health and safety training. 

Gary has worked as a Health and Safety Trainer and Consultant for 18 years. Having delivered training within Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Oman, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Georgia, Equatorial Guinea, Azerbaijan and the UK, Gary is highly experienced in teaching to a wide range of cultures, with the ability to adapt his teaching style, method and language to suit various students. 

Skills and Experience

As a lead trainer for international courses, Gary has delivered courses to Senior Safety Instructors, Team Leaders, Safety Engineers, HSE Officers and Project Managers within the Oil and Gas industry, including NEBOSH International/General Certificate, NEBOSH Construction Certificate, NEBOSH Oil and Gas Certificate, NEBOSH HSE Level 2 Award, IOSH Working Safely, IOSH Managing Safely, and HNC training; as well as general HSE courses including Integrated Safe System of Work (ISSOW), Fire Awareness courses, Safety in Process Plant, HAZOP, Risk Assessment within Engineering Operations and Permit-to-Work to name a few. 

Gary has also delivered all aspects of BP Policies, Procedures and ISSOW training to new BP Technicians (Mechanical, Electrical, Production and Instrument) and additional training to BP Employees and Contractors.  He was responsible for the Creation and administration of HSE Policies, Safety Management Systems, Risk Assessments and Workshop Procedures.

Gary has regularly developed and delivered bespoke health and safety programmes for different levels of staff, tied in with the health and safety policies and principles of his clients. He successfully developed and presented training for over 3000 team leaders and team members as part of a companywide safety initiative for Tata Steel (formerly Corus), resulting in an improved performance and safety culture across the board.
