Dnata - IOSH Managing Safely in Aviation Training
We are proud to share how we delivered the IOSH Managing Safely in Aviation to dnata, the largest indepdent cargo handler at Heathrow. Here is how it happened.
Course
Dnata is the one of the largest independent aircraft ground handling companies in the United Kingdom. They provide integrated solutions to many airlines from around the world including passenger handling, operations, cargo handling, ramp services and trucking (also known as transport).
Whether it’s greeting passengers with a warm welcome or ensuring that their cargo arrives safely at its destination, they keep people and businesses moving around the world. With local expertise and the support of an international network, Dnata enhance airport services for businesses through their unique solutions and innovative thinking.
Safety is at the heart of everything Dnata do. They pride ourselves on high training standards, sharing best practices among staff around the world. Today, most of Dnata’s worldwide operations are ISAGO certified. The rest will soon follow.
Company Objective
Dnata is committed to achieving the highest possible safety and security standard for their employees and customers. Their internal initiative, ‘One Safety’, puts safety at the heart of Dnata operations. It aims to develop a strong safety culture by making sure everyone understands and appreciates how their personal behaviour contributes to the health and safety of employees. The message is a simple one: safety is everyone’s business.
A key objective is to instil safety leadership and best practice at all levels of the organisation. Specifically, Dnata wants to ensure staff had an understanding of safety codes of practice, local regulations and HSE best practice.
Dnata commissioned Astutis to deliver the IOSH Managing Safely in Aviation to operational managers and supervisors at their Manchester, Heathrow and Gatwick venues.
IOSH Managing Safely in Aviation takes all the key concepts from the globally popular IOSH Managing Safely and applies them directly to the aviation working environment. It provides delegates with the skills to manage safety in an airside and landside environment in line with CAP642 and UK HSE legislative requirements.
Results
The IOSH Managing Safely in Aviation training has raised the awareness of operational responsibility and accountability in assessing foreseeable risks within the business, as well as the key role operational members of staff play in the process.
Christopher Clews, Training Compliance Manager at Dnata commented:
“Although Dnata’s operational managers and supervisors were already experienced in completing a task, they are now very much aware of the importance as to why tasks have to be documented and reviewed regularly. We are now able to complete risk assessments and working instructions by bringing together working groups with the right level of experience and qualifications.”
