Role
It is the responsibility of a Health & Safety Consultant to assist organisations in addressing health & safety matters which may potentially affect customers, employees and the public. The majority of the role consists of examining the workplace, predicting hazards and carrying out inspections. Consultants are hired by a variety of organisations, government agencies and consulting firms and workplaces can typically include construction sites and factories.
As well as health & safety other areas of specialism for working as a Consultant include construction safety, food safety, fire safety, management system auditing and safety training.
Typical salary range
Circa £25,000 - £60,000 p.a. depending on experience
Duties include:
- Conducting SWOT analysis’ and audits in regards to occupational health & safety management systems.
- Site visits to conduct inspections and risk assessments to minimise hazards.
- Reviewing risk assessments when situations change.
- Creating and managing project plans.
- Keeping up-to-date with current legislation.
- Liaising with officials from Regulatory Bodies.
- Providing advice on issues such as noise monitoring.
- Reviewing training requirements and conducting health & safety training.
- Developing health & safety policies.
- Producing reports on the organisations health & safety performance.
Skills and qualifications required:
- Degree, preferably in a related topic.
- 3+ years experience in health & safety.
- A minimum of Graduate membership of IOSH (Grad IOSH) working towards Chartered status (CMIOSH).
- Membership of other professional bodies is an advantage (Eg. HSE, IFE, MIIRSM, MIFireE, MCIEH).
- A formal health & safety qualification such as the NEBOSH Diploma.
- The ability to develop tailored solutions.
- Good IT skills.
- Excellent communicator.
